Happy John Henry Day to All

Rain clouds are building over the lakes and mountains, and after "She's Watching the Detectives," David Byrne's voice comes over the radio with "Psycho Killer." Will I ever hear that song again without the image of Ryan in the camp chair in the Hermosa kitchen munching potato chips in time, with his marvelous deadpan humor?

I am missing you, today, my fellow HIA John Henry Day alumni. People out here seem to think today is for relaxing, or worse yet, shopping. Nobody seems to understand that this is LABOR day; we should be laboring on some project. The only constant is change; people move in many directions; and traditions mutate, but I am remembering you all and a moment in time that I treasure in memory. I should probably go home and mow the lawn now.

John Henry Day 2007

Exceeding the maximum fun allowed by law...we will be partying so hard, it might be alot like work. You may also want to bring some karaoke music should you want to sing. I have figured out it will be impossible for me to put together a playlist that is going to be expansive enough for our group, so please if you want to sing any particular song or songs..please bring said songs with you. That is all. And don't forget your ridiculously hot outfit.

Bandit "Bad Ass" Enforces Dog-free Zone (provided dog is no larger than himself) by Amy Abeln

Hermosa, SD- Abeln arrives home from work. Bandit Big Ears comes up to greet her. He follows her to the door when along comes a little Manchester Terrier into the yard. Bandit Big Ears sees said dog and immediately decides to confront dog. Fur stands on back and tail as he chases dog on his tiptoes. Because he has sized up said dog and has figured out that dog is the same size as he is and he has chance of beating him. Bandit chaces dog out of the yard and dog runs away in fright. Bandit comes strutting back in triumph and figures that he is a bad ass now. He looked for the dog the rest of the day.

It Has Been a John Henry 3 Weeks(especially for Gregory)

Work continues on the bathroom re-modeling, it will probably end up to be a John Henry Month. As you all may have heard, Gregg tore out the bathroom and built a brand new one. Be watching for the before/after photo spread, if there ever is an after...the HIA will be the first to know. The new bathroom is very space-age, with many technological improvements. Rebuilding a bathroom is sort of intense, especially when you only have one. Our time estimates for finishing were somewhat overly optimistic, and we continue to work on it and go to work too. I have not meant to neglect the HIA, but figuring out where I am going to shower next has taken up alot of my time and energy. (Personal hygiene is a priority for me.)Anyway, I hope to get that photo spread to you this weekend!
