SCIENCE KNOWS NO HOLIDAY

While millions across the nation celebrate Independence Day by frolicking in grass bestrewn parks swilling beer and potato salad, the dedicated Man of Science celebrates his Independence by diligently remaining at his microscope.

There are no holidays in the pursuit of knowledge. The true Man of Science knows that he can never rest, never take his ease, never let the pursuit wane, for knowledge is like the elusive ivory-billed woodpecker, or the shy lynx, or the sorority girl with only half-a-beer in her system—one must be relentless in the chase or one’s prey will slip through one’s fingers like summer sweat.

Little do the unwashed millions of non-scientists know that as they sit with rolls of fat poking through the weave gaps in their lawn-chairs, and as they stumble to the port-a-potty to relieve their beer distended bladders, and as they “ooh” and “aah” and ogle monkey-like the fireworks exploding above them; little do the mealy-minded masses know that as they unpack coolers and argue the rules of badminton, the dedicated Man of Science works tirelessly for the improvement of their lives.

For who else will stand before the great night, his razor-like mind keeping the darkness at bay? Who else will shine the light of reason into the superstition befouled minds of America, curing the terrors of sloppy thinking? Who but the Man of Science will spend his 4th of July taking pictures of the developing gill arches of Catostomus commersoni—the white suckerfish?

He does this for knowledge. He does this for truth. He does this for YOU my fellow Americans.

He does this because his advisor will kick his ass if he hasn’t made progress in collecting his data when she returns from vacation tomorrow.

I HATE COMMENTS AND THINK I WONT USE THEM ANYMORE

I don't really like using comments with these articles. There may come a time in my life when I have a little more going on and don't have the luxury of scrolling through all the old articles seeing if there are any new comments. And after a few weeks of having great fun and accomplishing big things I might want to comment on some bit of news that will by that time be old news and nobody else will scroll that far back and my comments will be missed which will mean I will have wasted my time.

So I hearby inform you all that henceforward all of my comments will appear in the form of articles. In case I get sick of that, too, and decide to just use headlines.

Vermillion Librarian Knits, prepares for apocalypse

According to reliable sources in Siouxland, a Vermillion librarian has spent the last two days watching 3 Matrix movies and 2 Resident Evil movies and Constantine while knitting afghans.

When asked for comment, she reportedly said "Look. I'm a few steps ahead of the rest of you. I can see the future, man. You can believe what you like. All I know is, when climate change hits, and when the Matrix begomes apparent, and when the T-virus hits our streets and the demons began to cross over into our realm due to the assistance of a vengeful angel . . . then who'll look crazy for knitting all the afghans and scarves?? Yeah. That's right. All of you are gonna be all 'Oh, I wish I had a scarf, I wish I thought to make knitted throw to protect me from machines with AI and the Nemesis project and Mammon, the son of Satan . . . .' . . and I'll be all like, 'Too bad, suckas!! I only got enough knitted goods for me!! And Keanu. Beat it, losers!! . . . yeah, I'll be right with ya, Keanu.... do you need another afghan?' "

Sources close to the Librarian indicate she has been eating a lot of procressed chees lately, which may account for her warped state of mind. Authorities are monitoring the situation and a knitting intervention is planned. Local video rental agencies have be advised not to let her rent any movie with apocalyptic content or starring Keanu Reeves.

Keanu Reeves' agents have been alerted as a security precaution.

WInter Haiku

It seems there have been some stress related posts lately. In fact, I would submit that regardless of the Uppity bullshit from my first post, the Uppitiness in this blog is unrestrained. As a protocol of relaxation I suggest repeating this mantra at least 15 times during a 3o minute timeout you give yourself.

The snow is deeper than my dog is tall
Push it, push it
Fuck that, fuck'em all

And for the doubters, that is a Haiku on two levels - nature is invoked and there is an emotional ending. Wish I had some visuals to add.

Tupperware! the Documentary, Leads Netflix Subscriber to a Moment of Self-Discovery

Realizing she was pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill her queue, Molly Wortham made a solemn vow to "get a life". Which she fully intends to do as soon as soon as she is finished watching the HBO series about a polygamist family.
