I wonder what the sock/bug situation will be like in South Dakota?

Last year I don't think I had to wear socks...though it did get rather chilly a couple times. I remember the bug bites though, and I will be bringing bug repellent.

Vermillion Man O' the People Shares his Booty with the Community (*WINK*)

No, we don't mean THAT booty -he's been sharing that freely for years!!

After much nagging and whining and threats and bribes, A. Fish (Ladies Man - Man's Man - Man About Town) finally agreed to put some of his many pop-cultures treasures on display - Yes, it's "Al Fish's Kitsch-llection!"

And where better to do it than the public library - Vermillion's cultural hotspot!

Already the display has attracted a lot of attention - from the squeal of delight from the library staff to the teary-eyed nostaligia of the Baby Boomers to the fascinated gazes of the under 10 crowd.
This collection is only the tip of the iceberg and further installments are being negotiated.

Photos further erode latest toughness poll numbers

2 photos have surfaced that have been quite damaging to Wortham's latest toughness poll numbers.
Molly Wortham, at more than one point in her life referred to as "one tough bitch" is shocked and more than a little disheartened by the latest toughness poll numbers. Pitted against toughness diva Denise Hardesty, and trailing her in unprecedented percentage points,Wortham is not ready to give up. Enough with the "I can drink shots with beers, mountain climbing, firefighting, tree planting tactics. There is a whole lot more to being tough than just doing stuff that is tough, there is also looking tough and acting tough."
Toughness critics point out that in recent years Wortham has become sort of a whiny little bitch, she quit smoking, and admitted not being able to drink shots with beers, and the only sport she does is cycling, which everyone knows is not very tough. Some reports indicate her recent claims that she is now "pumping iron" are a little exaggerated.
"It is obvious to me, that for whatever reason, Denise just seems to be the press's new tough darling."
(Wortham kindly begs her base to please, please vote...you would not want to see me cry, would you?)

What is Denise smiling about?

Of course it is the shop's annual Elvis' birthday sale! Which is actually tomorrow, and she won't even be here 'cause she is going even further south, where it is warmer than here. She is such a lil bitch.

It was no way to start the new year...

We have made it through our first severe weather. It has taken everything I have to force my little feet into socks for the past few days, the seemingly endless soupmaking, the curling up under flannel sheets, braving those first 5 minutes before the car warms up, it was all too much. The sadness of having to look at my frost-bitten bouganvillia was almost more than I could bear. That is why I just have not been able to post lately. But things are looking up, it is back to the 80's and sunny so now you can look forward to some more posts!

Politics & Football

I'm sort of watching the IOWA caucus results. Its amazing how all the candidates I have heard speak can actually speak. No more George dumass Bushes. Now I'm watching a football game...gag. Nelson has control of the remote. KU vs VT. Now he is clapping. Is this the most useless post ever. Oh yes, thot I should tell you all that I jogged for 30 minutes this afternoon.

Every Day is the start of a new year!

This morning I decided to find out what all the hubbub is about times square for new years. To me it sounds awful. You have to hold your pee for 6 hours, some wear adult diapers I'm told, maybe its fun. So I googled it, and found a semi interesting place called 43things.com - its a list and goal managing site. I did it. Then I thot, man I should create a blog about my garden. So I also did that. Which made me think, I really should create a lemonade stand at lemonade.com - but I haven't done that yet. Tell me what you think.

Request for Streamlined Blog Reading

Would one of you blog-savvy sorts out there consider putting links to our authors' other pages along the side? It is starting to be very tiresome going to everybody's profile to get to their other sites. Of course, in mully's case, it might be best to not link to every one of her seperate blogs until after the intervention. (we may want to consider enlisting the help of the Starbuck's dude for that) Thanks.

Sincerely, Boomer

Reality

This handsome young lad is now old and stale.

Paper Making

Okay, so now that I'm an official reporter for the HIA news, I've got share my obsession with making paper from plant fibers. I'm sure you all know that paper comes from plants. Most paper is made from trees. Most asian paper is made from kozo ( a relative of the mulberry). You can make paper out of almost any plant but some plants have more fibers than others. I just finished a batch of osage orange paper. Its in the mulberry family but has thorns on it. First you boil the branches, and peel off the bark and underlying fiber. Then you cook it in soda ash for about an hour. That breaks down the non fiber part fo the plant. THe bark is peeled off at this time. Next you blend the fiber and you have pulp and can go ahead and make paper.

My favorite papers so far come from milkweed bast fiber. Bast fiber comes from the stem of the plant. I've made paper from 4 species of milkweed and its all so different looking. Its soft as cotton. pretty incredible.

Okay. the agony from my foot injury is really killing me. I want pity.

waa waa waaaaaaaaaaaa

Okay, So I'm thinking as I am laying here in bed, what did i deserve to be in this condition. It all started at the grocery store, I bot grocs and forgot I had put water in the underside of the cart. As I was leaving I thot, cool I just shoplifted.

I get home and I put out birdseed for the wild birds. I also decide to take twig cuttings of various trees in my yard to test them for bast fibers for paper making. As I'm coming in I hit a patch of ice at thecorner of my house and twist and fall and writhe in agony. I was barely able to get up to crawl in the house.

I whine about for a while, and finally muster the energy to get my groceries out fo the car. Thats when I notice. They charged me for my shoplifted water. Do they have an ankle hieght scanner. or did checkboy just notice it and charge me. Anyway. I thot karma was knocking me on my ass for shoplifting. but i didnt shoplift. SOOOOOOOOO why did i fall and sprain, or possible break my ankle? PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEE.
