Florida: Not Just About Sunshine

On a drizzly Saturday, why not thrift shop? Warm by Minnesota february standards, Lakeland offered up a pleasant "beach alternative" for our intrepid travelers. After a visit to the stylish yet minimalistic Peace River Thrift Shoppe, they entered the sensory overload habitat of 360 Unlimited. Wow. Is there such a thing as too much cool stuff?

Best. Thrift. Score... EVER!

I have been going to the Civic Council for neigh on 25 years. In that quarter of a century I have never been privy to the likes of this whimsical shot glass holder. i had to pay 15 dollars for it because they obviously knew what they had. Above is a photo before one removes the shot glass, and below is a photo taken shortly after the shot glass has been removed.

What is Denise smiling about?

Of course it is the shop's annual Elvis' birthday sale! Which is actually tomorrow, and she won't even be here 'cause she is going even further south, where it is warmer than here. She is such a lil bitch.

Carol Hardesty Is Going To Be Very Proud of Me Someday

These summer days, they grow so long at the thrift shop, during the many hours when I have no one in the store, I am using my time very wisely by practicing my singing, dancing, and general performance skills to the songs of the 70's. (please note this is different than when I was just quietly singing while customers were present, just to be annoying) Think Tom Cruise in Risky Business, only I am not in my underpants, though I am wearing sunglasses. When my big break comes I will be ready Carol, I won't miss my calling a second time.

I Annoyed Everyone Today

Sometimes at work I like to listen to the seventies station. Today I was compelled to sing along with every song that came on. I know them all, they are all the hits I heard again and again on America's top 40 when i was a wee one, first developing my little musical tastebuds. I even sang in between sentences as I was checking people out. It would be kinda like this "Like a rhinestone cowboy, that willl be $8.56 , in a star-spangled rodeo, thank you ma'am, please come again, getting cards and letters from people I don't even know" Of course my singing voice is not the most melodic, and I sort of sang the songs just loud enough so a person really not really ignore the sound. I sort of felt bad about it, but there was really nothing I could do. Besides it was probably my turn to annoy the customers.

You All Ready For This?

I really hate to put you into cute overload so early in the week, but i had to share these. Part of my job is to make centerpieces for our board dinners, I usually try to incorporate things from the thrift shop, we were fortunate enough to get some donations of vintage knick-knacks recently. So this is what happened.....My work here is done.

Cheerful, Fun-Loving and Very Bright Orange Bunny Seeks Forever Home(hopefully before Easter)

despite his best efforts in repositioning himself all around a local thrift shop, this lil' fella has yet to find a family that will put him in an Easter basket. I think it is a darned shame, as he is so cute(does he not look like something from the wallace and gromit people?) Will someone please buy him?

Disney World Tickets, Check

Molly Wortham has been quite busy planning for her sister's first visit to Florida. The excitement builds as the day of her arrival draws near. "Renee has left me in charge of the intinerary, and I know for sure that a Florida trip would not be complete without a visit to the wonderful world of Disney, lucky for us, Florida residents can get these awesome deals. You can stay all day long and just soak up the fun. There are all kind of rides, and characters, and excited midwestern children all over the place. I know this would be just the thing to cure her wintertime/apocalyptic blues".
Molly's other plans for her sister include a volunteer opportunity at a local thrift shop, clearing the yard of palm fronds, and posing for cute pictures.
