With all due respect, to hell with the new millenium and its music, here are two songs from 20 or 30+ years ago. the first one is 'Cruel to be Kind'...I know! how did I take this long to get around to posting this chestnut in my repertoire?
I am not going to tell you the name of the second one, because I want you to listen and think 'hmmmm...what a pleasant rough hewed, hard scrabble version of that smooth synth driven pop classic...umm, what was the name of that song...oh, why can't I think of it? It's right on the tip of my...OH MY GOD, NO!!!! WHY WOULD HE TRY THIS ONE? DOESN'T HE REMEMBER WHAT THEY DO IN THE CHORUS? WHY WOULD HE DO THIS TO HIMSELF...MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHY WOULD HE DO THIS TO US? WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO DESERVE HAVING THIS VISITED UPON US?!? But really, stick with me on this one, I don't think the chorus is quite the trainwreck one would imagine. Dast I say I handled it with quite the aplomb. But rest assured I understand your concern.

I'm afraid I don't immediately recall the original of the 2nd song, but I like your version of my reaction better. In fact, it would be awesome if you could just write scripts for me from now on. I think you could make me a much more interesting person.
I love Cruel to be Kind too, of course. But to advocate for this devil millennium for a minute, have you heard some She & Him? Zooey Deschanel has an adorable voice!
ooooh, yes i have and indeed she does! i remember suzi hanson wanting me to see the movie 'elf' because of a scene in which zooey sings. it was amazing. and i am so glad that she is pursuing a music career as well.
That scene in 'Elf' is what got me started, too.
Thanks for finally posting your classic Nick Lowe cover - I so love your version.
As for this Erasure number . . . well . . . as you know, I was expecting DISASTER. But when i heard it, though I was tempted to reach for the phone to begin an intervention (for your own good), thankfully I remebered your words and stuck it out (though i was dubious). And I am so glad I did - not only did you carry it out with aplomb, but also panache!
I'd "Suck on it, Ersaure!", but, rest assured, they probably are . . .
I think I'm in love. <3
Your 'Cruel to be Kind' has always been one of my favorites. Almost as good as my personal "Rosegarden."
